Abstract

Guwahati, the largest among all the urban centres of North East India is located in the heart of Brahmaputra Valley. During the past for decades, it has experienced unprecedented spatial expansion and a steep rise in population size. The Western Urban Fringe of the Guwahati City is spread between the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport. As because of the Capital, not only the administrative importance of the city increasing but the other economic & socio cultural activities are also getting enlarged at a tremendous rate. As a result the city has experienced a heavy influx of people from both the rural & urban areas. For which they have exerted some negative impact on the city’s environment, particularly affecting the land use/land cover pattern by encroaching bills & wetlands and polluting land, water & air.
