The problem of unemployment and the poverty in the rural areas of the country continuous to be cause of serious concern. The Indian government has a number of schemes meant to alleviate poverty in rural areas and to address the issue of unemployment various income generation shames such as the Jawahar Roazgar Yojana (JRY), Swaranjayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana, Sampoorna Grameen Rozgar Yojana etc. Out of these schemes MGNREGP has a great potential for income security, poverty reduction and development of the backward rural areas, which will then help in addressing issues of migration, unemployment and food security. Aim of the paper is to know that how beneficiaries can get the benefit from MGNREGP and to know the role of leaders or key persons in the process of implementation of this programme.
