Valmiki Ramayana, the great repository of various disciplines, is studied to know psychology, social system, polity, geography and much more. Being a work, depicting Lord Vishnu who manifested in the form of a king, Valmiki Ramayana gives lot of instructions for duties of a King. Hence, an attempt is made in this paper to show how the rule of the Ikshvaku kings was following the tradition of Manu. So, while describing various aspects of the Raja Niti, respective statements from Manu Smṛti are presented in few instances.
