Abstract

ABSTRACT Empowerment of women cannot be ignored, it has been recognized as the central issue in determining the status of women. In this sense formation of SHGs with women has empowered them to the larger extent. Mohamed Yunus of Bangladesh, founded the concept of SHGs. SHGs have been evolved as a movement. Its benefits made women to actively participate in the movement. NULM would aim at universal coverage of the urban poor for skill development and credit facilities. The evidence indicates that maximum empowerment was found in psychological (86.36%), followed by social (83.28%), educational (81.16%), political (80.04%), and least in economic empowerment (70.01).More psychologically empowerment was found compare to non-participants, as measured by women’s feelings of self-worth, self-confidence and self-esteem.
