Abstract

Overweight and obesity are major public health problems globally. Rapidly changing dietary practices and a sedentary life style led to increasing prevalence of obesity. There is clear evidence of a demographic, epidemiological and nutrition transition that is fuelling the epidemic of chronic diseases and obesity all over the world. Eating out frequently, particularly at quick-service or fast-food restaurants, is related to greater weight gain and obesity. Studies found that frequently eating in restaurants is related to higher intakes of fat, sodium and soft drinks, and lower intakes of nutrient-dense foods, such as vegetables. Having the desire, facts, and practical skills to choose healthy foods helps us to make the best decisions.
