Abstract

Women empowerment is a continuous process. Women participation where she represent half of the population in national and local politics, is fundamental to democracy and essential for the achievement of sustainable development. Indeed true democracy is based on the realization of human rights and gender equality. After independence it is hoped that constitutional rights would begin a new era of real representation but women face a wide range of constraints to effective representation. This paper wants to focus on the under representation of women in parliament and local level. This under representation of women poses a big problem for democracy.
