Abstract

India is a country of villages and there is approximately 69 percent of population lives in rural areas. Hence rural development and poverty reduction is an important aspect for socio-economic development of the country. More than 50 percent of national income is generated from rural area. Even after independence the rural peoples have faced lots of problems in agriculture, trade, commerce, and other economic activities. They depends upon money lenders for financial assistance, who have taken very hard interest rates from rural peoples. Commercial banks have done a positive role in rural development but their main trust is in urban localities.
