Abstract

This paper attempts to analyse the socio-economic backgrounds of students in primary and secondary schools under different managements in Andhra Pradesh. The empirical data in this paper shows that the students’ choice of school either government or private largely depends upon their caste, gender, parents’ educational levels and occupations, family income, etc. The students who go to government or government aided schools belong to the marginal sections such as SC’s (30.5%) and ST’s (7.8%).
