Abstract

India as a geographical entity has a unique character. India shares its boundaries with nations greatly varying in their size, resources and strength. These nations include Afghanistan, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Maldives, Pakistan, China, Nepal and Sri Lanka. India has struggled to maintain stable and strong relations with its neighbours in a region considered to be the least integrated in the world. Atal Bihari Vajpayee (Former PM and most successful foreign minister) had once famously said ‘You can change your friends but not neighbours’ (Vajpayee 2003).
